Our office is only 25 feet above sea level but breezes from the bay often rattle windows. So we became Windy Hill Press. We are a small publishing company founded in 1997 specializing in children's books and health related topics.

Gail Gilkey

When I was a child, my siblings and I were expected to entertain ourselves. Mostly, we played outside with neighborhood kids. Once a week, as a treat, my mother took us to the library. Add singing and piano lessons. That was my childhood, music, friends and hours of reading.

When I had children, I always read them bedtime stories. I also volunteered to read at nursery schools. I noticed there were big gaps in material. Important topics weren't being addressed. Religiously blended families had no stories about them. No writer dared approach the topic of setting limits. The hazards of trash to wildlife went unnoticed for this new generation. Miriam's Holiday, Would You Still Love Me?, and No More Garbage fill that void.

I have also aimed to contribute to another important niche .... "Children Who Are Different." Diversity is a special trait of America, not only in race or ethnicity, but also in life style, thought patterns, and identity. Freckles and the Circus and Double Crossing are about preteens and teens who struggle with their identities, who try to fit in and find they can't. They are forced to create their own way.

The professional book is in my field. I have been a physical therapist for 22 years. I especially like the home care setting and have spent 15 years in three different home care environments. The chapters contain physical therapy treatments along with human interest stories.
